Official Rules for "Meaningful Use"

On January 13, 2010, the Department of Health and Human Services and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology published the official rules governing the definition of "meaningful use" of electronic records to qualify for Medicare and Medicaid incentive payments.  These rules have been submitted to the Federal Register and can be accessed via the following link http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/aces/fr-cont.html .

There are 25 - meaningful use objectives and related measures physicians must meet to be eligible for the maximum Medicare reimbursements allowed under the ARRA.  If you, your practice or organization plan on participating, there are steps you must take now, whether you have an EHR or you're shopping for one.

The meaningful use regulations are subject to a 60-day public comment period
