The Uninsured - Not clear on whose position will win in the House-Senate negotiations
Although there is no clear consensus between the House and Senate on how to provide insurance coverage for Millions of uninsured Americans, the final bill will have some mechanism for covering the uninsured. After months of debate, 1am votes and weekend debates the Senate approved the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act amendment to the House of Representatives Health Care Reform bill. Negotiations lie ahead for the final version of Health Care Reform as the differences between the House and Senate versions are reconciled.
60 Day Freeze on Medicare Physician Reimbursement Payment Rates
President Obama signed the FY 2010 Defense Appropriations bill into law this afternoon. Thus, the scheduled 21.2 percent cut to physician reimbursement has been delayed for 60 days. Due to the language of the law, only the conversion factor is affected. All other policy changes to the Medicare program will become effective January 1, 2010. 2010 Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI)
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) are offering a new reporting option, available for the 2010 PQRI and and eRx Incentive Program. The new option is known as the Group Practice Reporting Option (GPRO). Group practices that are interested in participating in the GPRO for PQRI and / or the eRx Incentive Program must submit a self-nomination letter to CMS by January 31, 2010.
