According to statistics from the American Hospital Association, the nation's 5,010 nonfederal community hospitals' overall profit dropped 61% from fiscal year 2007.  The recession caused a $20.5 billion slide in providers' investment portfolios. CMS to Eliminate Consult Codes effective January 1, 2010
